Free agent forward Perry Jones III has agreed to a training camp contract with the New Orleans Pelicans, according to a report from ESPN.
Jones was the 28th overall selection of Oklahoma City Thunder in 2012. He last played in the NBA in 2014-15. He played in Russia the following year and for the Iowa Energy of the G-League last season.
Per ESPN: “As the Pelicans search for athletic wings to defend and spread the floor on offense, Jones, 25, will get an opportunity to make New Orleans roster in the preseason.”
The Pelicans have been searching for a replacement for starting small forward Solomon Hill, who suffered a hamstring tear that rquired surgery. Hill is expected to miss six to eight months.
Earlier in the day, it was reported the Pelicans had signed veteran shooting guard Tony Allen to a one-year contract. Allen has spent his previous seven NBA seasons with the Memphis Grizzlies.
The Pelicans had also expressed an interest in trading for Cleveland Cavaliers shooting guard Iman Shumpert. Free agents Josh Smith, Martell Webster and Shabazz Muhammad were also said to be on the team’s radar in recent weeks.
