New York Knicks coach Jeff Hornacek is trying to find more minutes for rookie point guard Frank Ntilikina, according to a report from Newsday.
However, Hornacek isn’t ready to hand over the starting job.
“Not yet,” Hornacek said. “That’s something we’ll continue to look at it, but for now, no.”
Ntilikina is still just 19 years old. The Knicks have slowly been expanding his minutes and he has produced. In 33 games, he is averaging 6.0 points and 3.5 assists. He'[s shooting just 37 percent from the floor, but showing an increased ability to direct the offense.
“We’re trying to get him some more minutes,” Hornacek said. “It makes it difficult late in games if he’s going well, he ends up playing a lot of minutes. Maybe we need to give him a break here and there.”
The Knicks (18-18) have shown improvement since trading Carmelo Anthony just before the season and are determined to make the playoffs.
