To the surprise of not many, the Orlando Magic have fired coach Frank Vogel, the team announced Thursday.
Vogel spent two seasons with the team — but this was his first under the new front-office regime, fronted by president of basketball operations Jeff Weltman.
The Magic missed the playoffs both seasons under Vogel, who compiled a 54-110 record during his Orlando stint.
“We would like to thank Frank for his contributions to the Orlando Magic,” Weltman said in a statement. “We appreciate the sacrifices he made as head coach and certainly wish him and his family well going forward.”
Prior to coaching the Magic, Vogel had some great success with the Indiana Pacers of the Paul George and Roy Hibbert era from 2011-2016, leading them to the playoffs five times.
