Suns granted permission to interview Blazers’ Vanterpool, Tibbetts

Blazers assistant Nate Tibbetts is among those who will reportedly interview for the Blazers' coaching vacancy.

Phoenix Suns general manager James Jones has begun his quest for a new coach, and like so many others, Jones will interview a traveling Portland pair.

As relayed by Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, that would be none other than Trail Blazers assistants David Vanterpool and Nate Tibbetts — both whom have interviewed for head-coaching vacancies over the previous two offseasons. Both are making the rounds again this year, as Tibbetts and Vanterpool reportedly each will also interview for the Cleveland Cavaliers’ opening.

The Suns are looking for a new man on the sidelines after firing Igor Kokoskov earlier this week after one season.

Tibbetts and Vanterpool each joined Terry Stotts’ staff with Portland in 2013.

The Suns have also been linked to Philadelphis 76ers assistant Monty Williams and possibly, former Suns point guard Jason Kidd, who coached the Brooklyn Nets and Milwaukee Bucks.

Reports have suggested Williams is the Suns’ leading candidate.

Since the Blazers are still in the playoffs, James will need the Blazers’ permission to interview their assistant coaches. Per Wojnarowski, that permission has been granted.
