Report: Rondo agrees to deal with Pelicans

Rajon Rondo and the Bulls parted ways after after just one season.

Free agent point guard Rajon Rondo has agreed to a one-year contract with the New Orleans Pelicans, according to a report from The Vertical.

Rondo, 31, was waived by the Chicago Bulls last month. The signing reunites him with Pelicans big man DeMarcus Cousins, as the two were teammates with the Sacramento Kings.

Per the report: “Rondo met with the Pelicans on Thursday and again Saturday in Atlanta before committing to a contract with New Orleans, league sources told The Vertical. Rondo, a four-time NBA All-Star, has met with Pelicans general manager Dell Demps and head coach Alvin Gentry and has strong relationships with star center DeMarcus Cousins and assistant coach Darren Erman.”

Rondo averaged 7.8 points and 6.7 assists for the Bulls last season. He is expected to both back up and play alongside starts Jrue Holiday, who re-signed with the team earlier this month.

Rondo also drew interest from the Los Angeles Lakers and New York Knicks, among others.
