Starting small forward Solomon Hill will require surgery on a torn left hamstring and is expected to miss six to eight months, the New Orleans Pelicans announced Sunday.
While not a household name, Hill is an underrated piece in a monster frontcourt that features power forward Anthony Davis and center DeMarcus Cousins.
The Pelicans are aiming to get back to the playoffs with Cousins headed for free agency in July of next summer.
Hill averaged 7.0 points and 3.8 rebounds in 71 games last season, his first in New Orleans. His previous three NBA seasons all came with the Indiana Pacers.
Hill, 26, suffered the injury while working out in Los Angeles, the team said.
