Budenholzer already linked to Raptors opening

Mike Budenholzer coached the Hawks for five seasons.

Former Atlanta Hawks coach Mike Budenholzer has already been linked to the Toronto Raptors’ coaching opening, created when the team fired Dwane Casey on Friday.

Budenholzer mutually parted ways with the Atlanta Hawks after the season. A league source told Amico Hoops earlier this week he is the frontrunner for the coaching vacancy with the Milwaukee Bucks. He reportedly interviewed in Milwaukee on Tuesday.

At any rate, it appears Budenholzer may have his pick of where he coaches next.

ESPN reported that Budenholzer will receive “a close inspection” from the Raptors, with The Ringer adding to “watch out” for Budenholzer as a Raptors possibility.

Budenholzer compiled a 213-197 record in five seasons with the Hawks. He also interviewed with the Phoenix Suns but removed himself for consideration last month.

The Raptors fired Casey after seven seasons and two straight playoff sweeps at the hands of LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers.
