Mavs’ Noel to undergo thumb surgery

Nerlens Noel will have surgery on his left thumb.

Dallas Mavericks big man Nerlens Noel has torn ligaments in his left thumb and will undergo surgery, according to head coach Rick Carlisle.

Noel says he thinks he suffered the injury in the fourth or fifth game of the season but continued to play through it. He will most likely miss between four-to-six weeks.

Noel has appeared in 18 games this year and is averaging 4.0 points and 4.1 rebounds while shooting 52.8 percent from the field in roughly 12 minutes per contest.

Both Mark Cuban and Carlisle have commended Noel for how he’s handled his reduced playing time.
