McHale, Paxson reportedly candidates for Suns GM vacancy

Former Timberwolves executive Kevin McHale is said to be under consideration for the Suns GM vacancy.

Former Cavaliers general manager Jim Paxson is among the candidates to become GM of the Phoenix Suns, according to Marc Stein of the New York Times.

Paxson, 61, was Cavs GM from 1999-2005 before being replaced by Danny Ferry, current interim GM of the New Orleans Pelicans. Paxson is the older brother of Chicago Bulls executive John Paxson and is serving as a team consultant.

According to Stein, former Minnesota Timberwolves executive/coach and Houston Rockets coach Kevin McHale is also drawing interest from the Suns. McHale is currently a Turner Sports analyst and has already spoken with the Suns, per Stein.

Formr NBA wing James Jones and Trevor Burkstein have been acting as the Suns’ interim co-GM since Ryan McDonough was fired a week before the season. Jones and Burkstein are expected to be candidates for the GM vacancy as well.
