Pelicans getting G-League affiliate in Alabama

The Pelicans waived well-traveled guard Andrew Harrison on Tuesday.

The New Orleans Pelicans are getting their own affiliate in the NBA G-League, according a report from Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

Per the report, the team will play its home games in Birmingham, Ala.

“The team will start play in Erie, Pa. next season until renovations are complete on arena in Birmingham,” Wojnarowski reported.

The Atlanta Hawks’ G-League affiliate is currently playing in Erie, but is moving to Georgia at the end of this season.

The Pelicans will become the 28th of the 30 teams with their own G-League affiliate, leaving only the Portland Trail Blazers and Denver Nuggets without one. Reports have surfaced that a Nuggets affiliate could be on the way soon.
