Pistons’ Griffin has knee surgery; no timetable for return

Pistons forward Blake Griffin averaged 24.5 points in 75 games last season.

Detroit Pistons forward Blake Griffin underwent knee surgery on Tuesday and there is no timetable for a return, the team announced in a news release.

The knee issue has limited Griffin to 18 games this season. He had surgery on that same knee over the summer.

Griffin, 30, is averaging 15.5 points and 4.7 rebounds this season. While he has made no excuses, Griffin clearly has been laboring for most of the year.

The Pistons are 13-24 entering Tuesday night’s game at Cleveland. They face the Cavaliers again Thursday in Detroit.

“At the conclusion of the 2019-20 season, Griffin will have two more years and approximately $75 million left on his deal, with the last year being a player option,” Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports noted.
