Before getting into the scouting business, Polinsky was a coach. His coaching career started back in 1981 as an assistant at the university of Howard. He went on to be an assistant at Texas and Alabama before becoming a head coach at the University of Georgia Southern, where his teams went a combined 34-76.
He became a scout for the Brooklyn Nets in 1999 when they were still in New Jersey. In 2004, Polinsky was named the team’s director of scouting. Polinsky then became the Director of Player Personnel.
