Pistons impressed with Casey, frontrunner to get job

Former Toronto Raptors coach Dwane Casey is the frontrunner to land the team’s coaching job, a league source told AmicoHoops.

Casey met with Pistons owner Tom Gores on Tuesday and impressed ownership with his vision for the franchise.

The Pistons are meeting with San Antonio Spurs assistant Ime Udoka Wednesday. University of Michigan coach John Beilein has withdrawn his name from consideration. Beilein had talked separately with Gores and Detroit management.

Casey was head coach of the Raptors from 2011-2018. He compiled a regular season record of 320-238, but was just 21-30 in the playoffs.
