Missouri’s Michael Porter Jr. held a private workout this week in Chicago in front of a few teams and was “extremely impressive,” according to a report from Mike Fisher of DallasBasketball.com.
The Dallas Mavericks, who own the fifth overall pick in the 2018 draft, had officials present at the private workout and believe Porter Jr. is a top-three prospect if healthy.
Health, of course, is the biggest question with Porter Jr. He suffered a back injury which required surgery and was out for four months.
While some league executives are concerned about the back ailment, Porter Jr. is still projected to be a top five pick in the draft.
Arizona’s Deandre Ayton is widely expected to be taken number one overall by the Phoenix Suns. After that, no one really has an idea as to who will go next.
Porter Jr. isn’t letting his back injury affect his confidence. He’s said on many occasions at pre-draft interviews that he’s the best player in the draft.
The Mavericks are hoping the Sacramento Kings, Atlanta Hawks and Memphis Grizzlies all pass on Porter Jr. The organization believes he would fit in nicely alongside Dennis Smith Jr. and Harrison Barnes.
