Duke forward and projected No. 1 overall draft pick Zion Williamson has declared for the 2019 NBA Draft. Williamson made the announcement on Instagram.
Williamson is 6-foot-7 and 285 pounds and has been compared to long-ago legends Charles Barkley and Shawn Kemp with his combination of strength, speed and skills.
He averaged 22.6 points, 8.9 rebounds and 2.1 assists while playing alongside fellow projected lottery picks R.J. Barrett and Cam Reddish. Most mock drafts have Barrett being drafted second or third overall, with Reddish possibly going in the top five.
But Williamson is the clear favorite for No. 1.
The New York Knicks, Cleveland Cavaliers and Phoenix Suns all have equal odds to win the draft lottery, scheduled for May 14.
“At the end of the day, I’m really prepared for whoever we get,” Knicks coach David Fizdale said last week on the Michael Kay Show. “I just know that we’re going to get a young talent that’s going to add to the pot and we’ll keep building from there. I’m not getting to a place where I’m just going to fall in love too much with one guy and then get disappointed.”
