Chicago Bulls big man Bobby Portis will be eligible for a new contract this summer and the team plans to discuss an extension with the 23-year-old and his representatives — according to a report from NBCSportsChicago.com.
Portis is in his third year in the league and putting together a solid season for the lowly Bulls. The 6-11 forward is averaging a career-high 13.0 points per game while grabbing 6.5 rebounds.
If the Bulls and Portis are unable to agree upon an extension during the offseason, Portis will become a restricted free-agent in 2019. He’s scheduled to earn $2.5 million next season in the final year of his rookie deal.
Portis will be open to contract talks this summer with the Bulls, according to the report.
