Former Toronto Raptors coach and current Detroit Pistons coach Dwane Casey hasn’t spoken to Raptors president Masai Ujiri since being fired and is still harbouring plenty of resentment towards his former boss, according to a report from Josh Lewenberg of TSN.
Ujiri fired Casey after the Raptors were swept by LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers in the second round of the playoffs for the second consecutive year.
One of the main reasons Casey is upset at Ujiri is because Ujiri replaced him with assistant coach Nick Nurse. Nurse was Casey’s top assistant. The two haven’t spoken either since Casey was let go.
Casey was named Coach of the Year this past season. He had been with the Raptors since 2011, compiled a regular season record of 320-238, but was just 21-30 in the postseason.
When addressing the Kawhi Leonard trade, Ujiri said he gave Casey and DeRozan enough chances to get over the hump and that it was time for a change. Both DeRozan and Casey took exception to that comment.
