Jeff Bzdelik is ending his brief retirement and heading back to the Houston Rockets as associate coach/defensive coordinator under Mike D’Antoni, according to a report from the Houston Chronicle.
The Rockets have not fared well in the early-going and Bzdelik’s defensive strategies have clearly been missed.
It is not known why he decided to step away, but his return apparently has everyone with the Rockets feeling good.
“I think that Mike is one of the great offensive minds, but it takes chemistry to win 65 games,” Rockets owner Tilman Fertitta told the Houston Chronicle. “Jeff is one of the missing pieces and we’re just glad to have him back. Mike’s thrilled to have him back. Mike is excited. He felt he could contribute and we’re all happy to have him back.”
The Chronicle added that Fertitta had been in constant contact with Bzdelik in an effort to bring him back into the fold.
The Rockets took the eventual-champion Golden State Warriors to seven games in the Western Conference finals last season, but are off to a 3-5 start this season, including 0-4 at home.
