Sixers hire Williams as lead assistant

The Philadelphia 76ers have hired former New Orleans Pelicans coach Monty Williams as a lead coaching assistant, according to a report from ESPN.

Williams, 46, will leave the San Antonio Spurs front office, where he has spent the past two years. He was an assistant coach with the Oklahoma City Thunder during the 2015-16 season.

Williams is well-respected throughout the league and figures to be a great influence on Joel EmbiidBen Simmons and Markelle Fultz.

The Sixers recently signed coach Brett Brown to a three-year extension.
