Charania also reports the move allowed Philadelphia to clear salary-space to sign 2017 second-round pick Jonah Bolden to a four-year, $7 million contract. A native of Australia, Bolden joined the Sixers for summer league this month and could be a rotational big man. He was the 36th overall pick of the 2017 draft out of UCLA.
The 6-foot-10, 245-pound Holmes averaged 6.5 points, 4.4 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 15.5 minutes in 48 games (2 starts) for the 76ers last season. He shot 56.0 percent from the field and 66.1 percent from the free-throw line.
In the 2016-17 season, Holmes averaged 9.8 points and 5.5 boards in 20.9 minutes (17 starts) in 57 games. However, with Philadelphia having big men Joel Embiid, Amir Johnson and Mike Muscala, his role was reduced last season.
The 24-year-old was the 37th overall selection in the 2015 draft by the Sixers out of Bowling Green.
