The Oklahoma City Thunder are in the market for a backup big man, according to Keith Smith of Yahoo Sports.
A league source seconded Smith’s report.
“Challenge is they don’t want to take on much, if any, money due to tax concerns,” Smith wrote. “But the Thunder realize they need at least one more big for the playoffs.”
OKC is coming off a double-overtime loss to the San Antonio Spurs in one of the more exciting games of the season. Prior to that, they lost backup center Nerlens Noel to what reportedly is a concussion after Noel took a hard fall against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
There is no set timeline for Noel’s return — which may be why the Thunder are gauging the market.
Along with potential trades, the Thunder are said to be looking at free agents and G-League big men as 10-day contract possibilities.
