The Oklahoma City Thunder appear to have received some nice help for star guard Russell Westbrook.
In a trade with the Chicago Bulls on Thursday, the Thunder landed power forward Taj Gibson and small forward Doug McDermott for guard Cameron Payne, swingman Anthony Morrow and forward Joffrey Lauvergne.
The move gives the Thunder two players who filled important roles for the Bulls, with Gibson doing some dirty work inside and McDermott being a constant threat on the perimeter.
Gibson, it should be noted, becomes an unrestricted free agent at season’s end.
As for the Bulls, as SB Nation wrote, “Chicago is crowded at the point guard, but Payne shines as a young prospect the team can potentially incorporate into its future.”
