Undetermined if Leonard will practice at USA Basketball camp

Toronto Raptors small forward Kawhi Leonard is expected to be in Las Vegas for this week’s USA Basketball camp, but it is unknown if he will participate in practices, according to a report from Josh Lewenberg of TSN.ca.

San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich is the coach of Team USA. DeMar DeRozan will be at the camp, as well as Kyle Lowry.

ESPN reported last week Leonard was attending the Team USA camp to show teams interested in trading for him that he’s healthy. The two-time Defensive Player of the Year missed most of last season due to a lingering quadriceps injury.

But now that Leonard has already been traded, it’s undetermined if he will practice. Leonard will become an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2019.

Since the trade became official, the Raptors have had conversations with Leonard and his camp and talks have been positive. Toronto now have roughly 12 months to convince Leonard to re-sign with them. The Raptors can offer Leonard almost $50 million more than any other team in 2019, including a fifth year. Leonard, however, will have to pay more money in taxes now that he’s living in Canada.
