Walton, James met for first time Sunday

Luke Walton apparently is not in danger of losing his job as coach of the Lakers ... for the time being, anyway.

Los Angeles Lakers head coach Luke Walton and star LeBron James had their first meeting Sunday in Las Vegas since James signed a free agent deal with the team.

James watched the Lakers’ summer league team live on Sunday. The four-time MVP and Walton had only exchanged text messages prior to Sunday’s meeting, as James went out of the country for vacation after he verbally committed to the Lakers.

Walton has spoken to some of his friends in the league who have coached and played with James to get an idea what he’s like, including Cleveland Cavaliers coach Tyronn Lue, Miami Heat coach Erik Spoelstra, Cavs big man Channing Frye and Richard Jefferson, who is currently an unrestricted free agent.

“He’s about the team,” Walton told ESPN about LeBron. “He’s about doing things the right way and he’s about winning. I can work with those qualities.”

The communication between James and the Lakers is already strong and the franchise consulted James before signing Lance StephensonJaVale McGee and Rajon Rondo. James even called Stephenson pitching him on teaming up in L.A.

  1. No Mr Walton LeBron is about doing things his way. He decides who plays and who don’t, rookies wait till next year. He doesn’t play defense and he also decides his mins. Didn’t Lue explain that to you? A lot of people will still call you coach
