Lonzo Ball’s name has been tossed around as a potential trade candidate for the Los Angeles with the signings of free agents LeBron James, Rajon Rondo, etc.
However, when it become known last week that the second-year guard had knee surgery to repair a torn meniscus, that cooled off many of the rumors that had been making the rounds across the NBA.
Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports there are feelings around the Lakers that someone from within the Ball camp leaked news of his recent knee injury to avoid being traded.
“That knee injury, I think there was a belief around the Lakers is that it was within (Ball’s) world that that got leaked out there to keep him from getting traded,” Wojnarowski said on his latest The Woj Pod on The Vertical. “He doesn’t want to get traded from LA.”
Wojnarowski said the news getting out was not a result of the team doing so.
“It wasn’t the Lakers who wanted information out on that knee injury,” he said. “There were a lot of teams who were checking on possible deals with the Lakers.
“They wanted to know. There were a lot of questions about that knee.”
