More than 900 Mayo Clinic staff diagnosed with Govit-19 disease in the Midwest in two weeks
This is 30% of the total number of positive tests since March.
“Our employees are often affected by social outbreaks (93% of staff infections) and this affects our ability to care for patients,” Kelly Luxstein told CNN in an email Wednesday.
Across the Midwest, the Mayo Clinic currently has approximately 1,500 staff, with Covit-19 exposures or diagnostic-related work restrictions, Luxstein said.
The Midwest Mayo Clinic system includes clinics, hospitals, and other facilities serving patients in Iowa, Minnesota and Wisconsin. The Midwestern states have been particularly hard hit by the recent round of the Govt-19 case uprising – the governor of Minnesota announced new measures this week to help control the spread and the governor of Wisconsin declared a new state of emergency.
Like other health systems, the Mayo Clinic is not immune to the catastrophic effects of infection.
Employees are often infected and infected in the community, Williams said. While some Americans are tired of hearing about safety measures such as wearing masks and washing their hands regularly, it is important to take those precautionary measures as the virus continues to spread across the country, he said.
“We do this because we care about our communities,” Williams said in the update. “We do not want families to be sick. We do not want families to lose loved ones. We want everyone to be safe. We will achieve this, but we must be safe, protect each other.”
‘We need your help, we need it now’
Parts of the health care system are already overwhelmed by the influx of patients, and other facilities are preparing for things to come.
In northwest Wisconsin, the Mayo Clinic Health System said last week that its hospital beds were 100% full.
“The public urgently needs to consider COVID-19 as a health emergency, which is to prevent the health care system from becoming overcrowded,” the health organization said in a report last week.
At the time, about 50% of ICU capacity was occupied by Covit-19 patients, the organization said in a statement, adding that Covit-19 patients treated in the hospital typically stayed two to three times longer than non-patients. Covit-19 patients.
“While temporarily suspending the procedures we have chosen to release beds for COVID-19 patients, the public should understand that we continue to care for the care of other patients in addition to COVID patients – trauma, emergency care and the need for emergency treatment when caring for COVID patients.”
“We need your help. We need it now.”
Williams, meanwhile, told a news conference this week that the Mayo Clinic at Rochester, Minnesota was raising its ICU capacity to handle the uprising of coyote-19 patients.
He said the organization expects hospital admissions rates to increase over the next two to four weeks.
In the video update, Williams said, we see more patients being transferred from hospitals outside the Mayo Clinic Health System.
“It tells hospitals elsewhere, in Minnesota, in Iowa, in Dakota, in the surrounding states.
CNN’s Kay Jones, Adrian Prattus and Brad Parks contributed to the report.
