Canelo Alvarez wins by unanimous decision over John Ryder

Saúl “Canelo Álvarez retained his middleweight world titles by defeating the Briton via unanimous decision John RyderSaturday at Akron Stadium in Guadalajara.

The Mexican champion held the belts at 168 pounds of the World Boxing Council, World Boxing Association, World Boxing Organization and International Boxing Federation.

Canelo completely dominated the fight, abusing the face of Ryder, who had been bleeding from his nose since the fourth ring.

The Brit fell to the canvas in the fifth round and it looked as if Alvarez was going to score his 40th knockout but Ryder showed courage and got up to keep fighting.

The redhead from Guadalajara had no problem controlling the fight and little by little he was demolishing his opponent in turn.

“I am so grateful to all of you, Long live Mexico California…” Canelo said at the end of the fight.

Canelo returned to his hometown after 12 years and that is why he considered his victory over Ryder something very special.

“It was a very emotional night, coming back to Guadalajara and winning the fight was my biggest motivation,” Alvarez said.

Canelo said his next fight he wants to be a rematch against Russia’s Dmitry Bivol.
