Celtics make the Kristaps Pursinges extension official
The Boston Celtics have formalized an agreement with Kristaps Porcingis for two years and $60 million. In this way, the Latvian will be under contract until 2025-2026 for a total amount of 96 million, it is reported. ESPN His agents are Jeff Schwartz and Janice Porzingis.
The center arrived in Massachusetts in a three-way trade that included the transfer of Marcus Smart to the Memphis Grizzlies. In order for the negotiations to take place, Porzingis had to exercise his player option for $36 million in 2023-2024.
“I think these are the best years for a basketball player,” the 27-year-old center said at a news conference. “My body is maturing, and reaching this age has helped me. I think I have great years ahead of me and at a high level.”
Porzingis reached career highs last year in points (23.2), shooting from the field (49 percent) and assists (2.7). In addition, he hit his second-highest three times with an accuracy of 38 percent, after the 39 he achieved in 2017-2018 with the New York Knicks. It’s been an encouraging season for someone who’s had serious injuries in the past.
In Boston, they believe Porcingos is the missing piece for Jason Tatum and Jaylen Brown for their long-awaited 18th title.
