ATLANTA (AP) — Atlanta Braves second baseman Ozzie Albies suffered a fractured left wrist late in Sunday's loss to the St. Louis Cardinals and is expected to miss about eight weeks.

Albee was injured while trying to catch the pitch when Michael Ciani stole second in the ninth inning. Ciani slipped as Albee tried to reach for the ball, bending his glove and hand at an odd angle.

Albee crouched in pain on the field, clutching his left wrist. He was replaced at second base by Atlanta teammate Zach Short.

After their 6-2 loss, the Braves announced that X-rays revealed a fracture in his left wrist and that they expected Albies to be sidelined for approximately eight weeks.

The three-time All-Star is hitting .255 with eight home runs and 46 RBIs, almost exclusively from second in the batting order.

It's another blow to Atlanta's lineup after Ronald Acuña Jr. missed the season with a knee injury in May.

Earlier, the Braves placed All-Star outfielder Max Fried on the 15-day injured list with forearm neuritis, an inflammation of the nerve, in a move retroactive to Thursday.

Seeking their seventh straight NL East title, the Braves trail Philadelphia by 8 games but hold on to the first wild card berth.
