Cavaliers to tip off four-game preseason on Oct. 7

Collin Sexton and the Cavaliers begin the preseason at home and face the Celtics twice.

The Cavaliers will christen the newly minted Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse against an opponent you’ve never heard of.

But that’s OK, it will only be the preseason when the Cavs host Argentinian club San Lorenzo de Almagro on Monday, Oct. 7.

That will be the first of four preseason games for the Cavs, and the first of two coming at the building formerly known as Quicken Loans Arena.

After that, the Cavs will visit Blake Griffin and the Detroit Pistons on Friday, Oct. 11, then visit new point guard Kemba Walker and the Boston Celtics on Sunday, Oct. 13.

The Cavs wrap up the preseason vs. the Celtics on Tuesday, Oct. 15 at home.

The NBA’s regular-season schedule is expected to be released within the next 7-10 days. Reports have indicated the season-opener will be Oct. 22. The Cavs are likely to open Oct. 23 or 24.

John Beilein is in his first season coaching the Cavs after 12 years at the University of Michigan. Kevin Love, Collin Sexton, Tristan Thompson, Cedi Osman and rookie Darius Garland are the team’s projected starting five.

Training camp is slated to tip off the final week of September.
