You can add the name of Markel Brown to the list of guards the Cavaliers will evaluate in training camp, Amico Hoops has learned.
Brown is 6-foot-3 and plays both backcourt positions, primarily shooting guard. He averaged 5.9 points in 62 games with the Nets last year, his first full NBA season.
Brown, 24, was selected by the Timberwolves in the second round of the 2014 draft. After bouncing between the Nets and D-League, he found a regular role with Brooklyn starting in January.
He scored a career-high 23 points in early March vs. the T-Wolves, then became a free agent at season’s end.
The Cavs are likely giving Brown an opportunity because they like his upside as a scorer, not to mention his 6-9 wingspan.
They are not commenting on their training camp roster until it becomes official later this month. Media day is scheduled for Sept. 26 with camp to tip off the next day.
