Emmanuel Macron issues a new immigration law in France

The French Constitutional Court has criticized several provisions of the law that insist on the right, among other things, to restrict access to social benefits and tighten family reunification criteria. After this ruling, Macron asked the Minister of the Interior: Gerard Darmanindo “everything in your power” to “implement.” Immigration law “As quickly as possible,” a member of the presidential team told AFP.

Darmanin, who had previously noted that some of the measures were “clearly inconsistent with the constitution,” described the ruling as a victory for the government.
The extreme right condemned the court's decision. Jordan Bardella, head of the National Rally party, described the ruling as a “coup by the judges with the support of the president” and called for a referendum on the immigration issue as “the only solution.”
