Free agent big man Bender leaning toward deal in Russia

Former lottery pick Dragan Bender has drawn little NBA interest in free agency.

Free agent forward Dragan Bender is leaning toward signing a multiyear contract with Russian club CSKA Moscow, “unless there’s an interesting NBA offer for him in the 11th hour,” according to Nikos Varlas of Eurohoops.

Bender was the No. 4 overall pick in the 2016 draft and spent three years with the Phoenix Suns. He has drawn interest from the Cleveland Cavaliers and Toronto Raptors in free agency, according to international basketball reporter Orazio Francesco Cauchi.

Bender, 21, is 7-foot-1 and averaged 5.3 points and 3.8 rebounds in 131 career games with the Suns. That includes averaged of 5.0 points and 4.0 rebounds in just 46 appearances this past season.

His best season was his second (2017-18), when he appeared in all 82 games, averaging 6.5 points and 4.4 rebounds and showing promise with his ball-handling and shooting.

I don’t care where that guy ends up. It just better not be in Cleveland. That guy’s softer than the Stay Puft Marshmellow Man.
