Assumed No. 1 overall draft pick Zion Williamson still has not signed with an agent, leaving hope for many and nervousness for others hoping to represent a young man who is already a star when it comes to marketing.
Along with being an ultra-athletic, high-flying, well-rounded player, Williamson is known as someone with a winning personality and every day outlook on life. As most NBA scouts will tell you, Williamson has “gotten over himself.”
Anyway, Sean Deveny of Sporting News recapped Williamson’s agent situation, reminding that Williamson is undoubtedly in line for a massive shoe deal.
Keep in mind, of course, that the NBA does not require players, or anyone, to have an agent. (In fact, most teams would be just fine not having to deal with them at all.)
But everyone does, and going this late into the game without one is … well, rare.
One former NBA agent and friend of the family, Chubby Wells, seemed in line to represent Williamson. But as Deveney noted, Wells’ certification lapsed. So Williamson will have to go with someone else.
“A source told SN that Williamson and his family are nearing a decision, which will come possibly as early as next week,” Deveney reported.
Basically, while the draft is still a month away, and most everyone already knows who the New Orleans Pelicans will take with the No. 1 pick, the Zion watch is already on.
