‘Messi’ madness has taken over Miami

The Argentine will arrive in the South Florida city and be presented this Sunday

As the big screening draws ever closer, the city of Miami prepares to usher in the era. Lionel Messi.

Following his decision to leave Paris Saint-Germain at the end of last season, his new club Inter Miami CF will present the icon and new World Cup champion this Sunday before embarking on a new challenge in MLS.

Messi arrived in South Miami with his wife Antonella and the couple’s three children after landing at Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport on Tuesday.

Predictably, news broke that one of the greatest and most beloved football players of all time was coming to Florida. For this reason, football fans began to gather outside the airport several hours before their arrival.

Likewise, fans flocked to see their idol at the DRV PNK Stadium, home of Inter Miami. Some fans wore Inter Miami and Argentina jerseys bearing Messi’s number, while others carried placards with life-size photos of the 36-year-old striker.

On the other hand, large groups of fans flocked to the streets of Wynwood, a Miami neighborhood known for its colorful displays of street art. Apparently, the group started chanting Messi’s name in front of a large painting of the former Barcelona icon.

And in Wynwood, Inter Miami co-owner David Beckham was all smiles this week as he helped Argentine artist Maximiliano Bagnasco put the finishing touches on a massive new mural of Messi painted on the wall of a building.

Everything points to “Messimania” starting to take over the Florida city ahead of the football superstar’s best presentation. Inter Miami has officially announced that the club will hold a “great presentation event” this Sunday, where Messi and his former Barca teammate Sergio Busquets will be formally introduced to the public as members of the squad.

Following that, Messi and Busquets will train under the orders of new Inter Miami coach Gerardo “Tada” Martino, who held his first training session last Monday. Martino has previously worked with both players at Barça, working with Messi as Albiceleste coach.
