Former Detroit Pistons president of basketball operations Joe Dumars has been named special advisor to Sacramento Kings general manager Vlade Divac, the team announced in a press release.
Dumars was NBA Executive of the Year in 2003 and built a championship-winning roster, as the Pistons of Chauncey Billups, Rasheed Wallace and Richard Hamilton upset the Los Angeles Lakers in the Finals.
“Joe and I played together in the league and he is a legend in our sport,” Divac said in a press release. “As an experienced and talented basketball executive, I’m excited to have him serve as a special advisor and expert resource for our incredible front office team.”
The Kings fell short of the playoffs again this season after finishing with a 39-43 record. Their promising cast includes the likes of De’Aaron Fox, Buddy Hield and Marvin Bagley III.
Dumars stepped down from his role with the Pistons in 2014.
