Kings to guarantee Farrell contract after waiving Mason III

Kings point guard Yogi Ferrell averaged just less than 6.0 points last season.

The Sacramento Kings have guaranteed to the contract of point guard Yogi Ferrell for the 2019-20 season, according to James Ham of NBC Sports Sacramento.

Earlier, the Kings waived point guard Frank Mason III.

Sacramento had until Thursday to either waive Ferrell or guarantee his $3.2 million salary for the 2019-20,” Ham reported. “The team intends to allow the deadline to pass and retain the 26-year-old point guard.”

Ferrell averaged 5.9 points in 71 games last season. He went undrafted out of Indiana in 2016 and has spent time with the Brooklyn Nets and Dallas Mavericks.

He is likely to battle free agent pickup Cory Joseph as the top backup to starter De’Aaron Fox.

Ferrell was runner-up for the esteemed Indiana Mr. Basketball in 2012, finishing behind current Denver Nuggets guard Gary Harris.
