Lionel gives reasoning for FP's municipal election results

Lionel: We will turn the people's support into votes on May 19

He confirms that what happened in the municipal elections in February will not be repeated again in the presidential and congressional elections in May

At the start of a series of meetings with delegates who will defend votes at the ballot boxes, Leonel Fernandez said that the Dominican Republic was going through a catastrophic situation and that people “look with hope to popular power.”

The head of the National Front party explained that an unexpected result was obtained in February, because they went to the polls very confident. He said that during the recent operation he received support in the streets. “The people’s support is there, but we could not see it at the ballot boxes.”

“There was no coordination between the different leadership teams, and therefore we were not able to convert popular support into an electoral victory,” the opposition leader added while speaking to delegates who will now head to the new electoral process.

The party teams were forced to undergo analysis and evaluation, so that what happened now in May would not be repeated, and they were forced to hold meetings in party organizations, “to try to extract lessons learned from the past process.”

At some point during the intervention, Fernandez asked: How many district directors are there in Electoral District 2 in the National Region? They replied that there were 50.

In this sense, Leonel Fernández asked campaign coordinator Rubén Maldonado to count those present, to immediately confirm the number of fifty who had raised their hands in the presence of the presidential candidate.

Throughout the country, the main political body of the Dominican opposition holds meetings with election officials and its leadership at the highest levels to promote vote-based voting among its members.

The meeting brought together the most important leaders of the electoral authority, the current representative who aspires to continue, Tobias Crespo, and the two candidates for parliament, Pedro Jimenez and Francis Hernandez.
