Mets sign Venezuelan outfielder and Gold Glove winner Yulmer Sanchez
The New York Mets are still active this MLB season. So much so that they added two new signings: former Gold Glove winner Yulmer Sanchez and catcher Austin Allen.
In fact, lasmayores.com revealed that both the Venezuelan player and catcher's contracts are minor league, but with an invitation to spring training.
Sanchez has totaled eight seasons in the best competition in the world, though he is coming off a 2023 year in which he was unable to move from the Atlanta Braves' Triple A affiliate, despite leaving a notable .381 on-base percentage.
The Mets even acquired the 31-year-old for a second time, who was already in the Queens entity in mid-2022, after arriving there via waivers from the Boston Red Sox.
Likewise, the Maracay native had his best time with the Chicago White Sox, whom he represented between 2014 and 2020, where he highlighted his Gold Glove at second base for the American League in 2019. Likewise, he hit at least 125 hits with the Bateblancos in 2017 and 2018 and 2019 mentioned above.
Now new New York Mets manager Carlos Mendoza will try to convince countryman Yolmer Sanchez to take over as the main reliever in 2024 as the Queens have to at least fight to get into the postseason.
