Pelicans decline qualifying offer on Diallo

Pelicans power forward Cheick Diallo is about to enter free agency.

The New Orleans Pelicans will not a qualifying offer to Cheick Diallo, sending the big man into unrestricted free agency, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

Without Diallo’s $1.93 million cap hold, the Pelicans will be able to free up a little space in their pursuit of free agents to surround No. 1 overall pick Zion Williamson.

Diallo, 22, is 6-foot-9 and averaged 6.0 points and 5.2 rebounds in 64 games this past season. He was drafted by the Los Angeles Clippers in the second round of the 2016 draft (No. 33 overall), then immediately traded to the Pelicans.

Diallo is a former McDonald’s All-American.
