Puerto Rico Police said they have identified the person responsible for the deaths of the three policemen
(CNN Español) – Puerto Rico Police Commissioner, Antonio Lopez Figueroa, confirmed Thursday that a man found dead during the early hours of Tuesday in Santorcy, a town near San Juan, was responsible for Three policemen were killed on Monday.
Lopez Figueroa identified the person as David E. Rivera Batiz.
For his part, Lieutenant Colonel Rolando Trinidad, Assistant Commissioner of Criminal Investigation, said that two rounds of confrontation took place with pictures of citizens and a member of the police. Everyone assured that Rivera Batiz was responsible for the events.
The police officers who were killed were State Police Officer Luis Marrero Diaz, Municipal Police officers Luis Salaman Conde and Eliezer Hernandez Cartagena.
“In the case of police officers, there is no one else involved,” Lopez said via the Twitter account of the Puerto Rico Police Office, arguing that there were no other suspects involved in the crime.
The accident occurred on Monday when police officers were making a drive-by car on the Dorioti de Castro highway in the municipality of Carolina, North Puerto Rico.
According to the police report, on Monday afternoon, state agents and municipal police from Carolina carried out a car interference there, when car occupants shot the policemen, and then an exchange of fire occurred. Two Carolina Municipal Police officers and two other state employees were injured.
The wounded were taken to Río Piedras Medical Center and Ashford County Hospital in San Juan, where medical authorities later confirmed the deaths of two municipal police officers and a government agent.
