HIGUEY, LA ALTAGRACIA, RD.- Club Savica was within the law of victory to be crowned champion of the forty-seventh Higüey Superior Basketball Tournament, after the 101-94 victory this Sunday over the Cambelén team, in a match held at the Leo Tavárez Sports Center.
Savica’s men put the final match in their favor with a score of 3-2, after the conclusion of the fifth match, they agreed to the best of 7-4, and if they win the next match they will win the Punta Cana group trophy in the competition dedicated to the Administrative Minister of the Presidency of the Republic, Jose Ignacio Baliza.
Capital boost Luis Velez once again led the way in Savica’s offense with 31 points, five rebounds, and seven assists, accompanied by Leonte Espiritosanto, who scored 19 points, Roderick Guzman’s 13 and five assists, and Daiker Sedano’s 12 plus six assists.
The Phillies edged past 34 points from Campbellin’s rookie reinforcement, Jonathan Bellew, who also added 12 rebounds and 10 assists to complete a triple-double, followed by Nathaniel Bonet with 28, and Jose Luis de la Cruz and Juan Quinonez contributed nine each..
Savica is led by Romanian coach Carlos Medina, Campelín is managed by José Cabrera (Tayron), a native of Puerto Plata, both are from the Dominican Basketball Federation (Vidombal) national teams draft, headed by Rafael Uribe.
The competition is organized by the Basketball Association of the Province of La Altagracia (ABAPA), chaired by Jorge Tavarez, and the Organizing Committee headed by Monsignor Jesús Castro Martí, Bishop of the Diocese of Nuestra Señora de la Altagracia in Hijuy.
