Thompson, Warriors agree to five-year max contract

Warriors shooting guard Klay Thompson averaged better than 21 points during the regular season.

As expected, free agent shooting guard Klay Thompson has agreed to a five-year, maximum-level contract with the Golden State Warriors, according to Marc Stein of the New York Times.

Thompson reportedly didn’t explore any other options or talk to any other teams in free agency. He became an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season.

He averaged 21.5 points and 3.5 rebounds during the regular season and along with Steph Curry, Draymond Green and Andre Iguodala has been part of the Warriors’ core that has reached the Finals five straight times.

But Thompson is expected to miss the majority, if not all, of next season with a torn ACL. The Warriors also lost Kevin Durant, who agreed to a deal with the Brooklyn Nets.
