The Golden State Warriors have signed rookie power forward Alen Smailagic to a four-year contract, according to Michael Scotto of The Athletic.
The deal is worth $6.13 million, with the first two years guaranteed, Scotto noted. Smailagic is 6-foot-9 and was selected in the second round (No. 39 overall) in last month’s draft.
He spent last season in the G League with the Santa Cruz Warriors, averaging 9.1 points and 4.0 rebounds in 47 games. Smailagic, who doesn’t turn 19 until next month, was the youngest player in G League history.
He is also the third international player from the G League to be selected in the NBA draft (Greek forward Thanasis Antetokounmpo and Nigerian center Chukwudiebere Maduabum are the others) — and the seventh overall to play in the G League league before being drafted by an NBA team.
