Tokyo, August 28 (EFE). – The Spanish women’s wheelchair basketball team defeated Algeria (8-80) and achieved a historic victory by being the first team for the team in the Paralympic Games.

Spain made its Paralympic debut in Barcelona 92, where it was invited as host, losing all five of its matches against Canada, Australia, Germany, Japan and France, where it finished eighth.

After 29 years, the team led by Abraham Carrion participated in the Paralympic Games in Tokyo by qualifying for the European Championships held in Rotterdam (Netherlands) in 2019.

The victory over Algeria, the first in the Games, came after defeats against the United States, the current Paralympic champion, and China, with whom they are in Group B.

The match did not have much history because the difference in level between the two teams was noticeable from the start and the Spanish players did not give a margin of surprise from the beginning, as they dominated the scoreboard, enjoying a 43-point difference in the first half. ..

Spain’s next match, the last in the group stage, will be against the Netherlands on Sunday at 9:00 (2:00 Spain time). Of the five teams in the group, the top four qualify for four.
