Corbin Carroll hit 25 home runs and 50 steals in the Diamondbacks win
PHOENIX — Merrill Kelly pitched 6 2/3 solid innings, Corbin Carroll hit his 25th home run and 50th steal of the season, and the Arizona Diamondbacks won their fifth straight game with a 7-1 win over the San Francisco Giants on Wednesday.
The D-backs swept the two-game series. They have a one-game lead over the Chicago Cubs for the second of three Wild Card spots in the NL.
The Giants have lost five of their last six games, falling to 76-76 on the season and sitting 3 1/2 behind for the final playoff berth.
Kelly (12-7) allowed a run on three hits, walked two and struck out five. The veteran right-hander bounced back after a rough outing in New York last week in which he allowed seven runs in five innings against the Mets.
San Francisco right-hander Logan Webb (10-13) allowed three runs on nine hits. He walked two in six innings and struck out six.
For the Giants, Venezuelan Thiro Estrada 3-1; And Luis Matos 4-0.
For the Diamondbacks, Venezuelan Gabriel Moreno is 3-for-4, with one RBI. Dominican Ketel Marte is 4-1, with one run scored and one RBI; Geraldo Perdomo 4-0. Puerto Rican Emmanuel Rivera went 1-for-4 with an RBI. Cuban Lourdes Gurriel Junior 3-1.
