(CNN) – Elliott Page and Emma Portner divorce.

The couple announced the decision in a statement to CNN on Tuesday.

After much thought, we made the difficult decision to divorce after our separation last summer. We have the utmost respect for each other and remain close friends.

Their separation comes three years after it was announced that they were married in 2018.

Portner, a Broadway dance center teacher, and actor started dating in 2017.
