Smith was injured and saw the 2023-24 season end when the Heat visited the Cleveland Cavaliers in November.He tore his right anterior cruciate ligament when he slipped off a high section of the court in front of the Cavaliers' bench. He had been a part of Miami's team up until that point, appearing in nine of the team's first 15 games.
The Heat waived him in March to make room for the veteran guard. Patty MillsHowever, when Miami made the move, coach Erik Spoelstra made it clear that the team would not give up on him and indicated that he would continue to help him with his rehabilitation process.
Smith, 26, averaged 4.3 points for the Heat last season. He has appeared in 24 NBA games (14 with Miami and 10 with the Brooklyn Nets) over the past two seasons.
The Heat have not released a timeline for when Smith could return to action.
