MIAMI – Once the Marlins knew they would have the honor of hosting the first Caribbean Series in a major league ballpark, the organization looked for partnerships.
Chief Business Operations Officer Carolyn O'Connor and former Major League Baseball Hall of Famer Pedro Martinez explained Thursday why the Miami Marlins Foundation and the Pedro Martinez Foundation are partnering on the upcoming Caribbean Series, which will be held Feb. 1-9 at Loan Depot Park.
“We've been talking for over a year,” O'Connor said. “For a few years we knew that we would be lucky enough to organize the 2024 Caribbean Series, and the first thing we did was contact the Pedro Martinez Foundation. We have our academy in the Dominican Republic. We have seen all the work they are doing, and Pedro is a sporting icon, who has given a lot to baseball.” In the Caribbean.We know that our star Sandy Alcantara is a fan of Pedro, who thanked him after his Cy Young win [de la Liga Nacional] In 2022.
