(CNN Spanish) — Former President of Venezuela’s National Electoral Council (CNE) D.P. Lucena has died, Executive Vice President Delci Rodriguez said on Wednesday. Twitter.
“Venezuela’s illustrious daughter, former head of the Electoral Authority and Minister of University Education. She was a true fighter all her life and she fought her last battle without a fight. Our condolences to your family and friends. Fly high sister,” the official wrote.
Lucena was the current Minister of University Education and chaired the CNE from 2006 to 2020.
The president in question, Nicolás Maduro, responded to the news on Twitter, where he described Lucena as “a very courageous woman who was loyal to her principles and ideals.” “We will always remember her for her integrity and moral strength,” he wrote, sending condolences to her family and friends.
